Proving the Potential of AI at KFR Services

KFR Services partnered with eGroup Enabling Technologies to explore AI’s potential through a proof of concept, automating the extraction of regulated energy rates from PDFs. This initiative reduced manual effort, improved accuracy, and enhanced efficiency, demonstrating AI’s role in modernizing data processes.

Proof of Concept Value

This project highlights the importance of a proof of concept in evaluating the potential of AI. By starting with a smaller, manageable scope, we were able to test the feasibility of AI and gain valuable insights without committing to a full-scale implementation. This approach allowed KFR Services to make informed decisions about the next steps and future investments in AI technology.

Introduction

At eGroup Enabling Technologies, we thrive on tackling complex challenges with innovative AI solutions. Our recent project with Stephanie Fetchen, Co-President of KFR Services, is a perfect example of how a proof of concept can help determine the feasibility and value of AI for an organization.

Challenges

KFR Services needed a way to automate the extraction of regulated energy rates from hundreds of PDF documents. Their team was spending countless hours manually sifting through these documents to find the necessary information, which was both time-consuming and prone to errors.

Solution

We embarked on a proof of concept to explore whether AI could replicate the manual process of extracting data, including the contextual information needed to apply the rates accurately to their database. This initial phase was crucial in understanding the capabilities and limitations of AI for this specific task.

Our idea was to be able to automate that process, to basically replicate what those people do sitting at their desk manually every day.

Outcomes

The proof of concept demonstrated that AI could indeed automate the extraction process, significantly reducing the time and effort required by the team. Stephanie Fetchen noted, “Our idea was to be able to automate that process, to basically replicate what those people do sitting at their desk manually every day”. While there are still some challenges to overcome in terms of accuracy, the project has laid a solid foundation for further development and refinement.
